Place, Practice and Inquiry, working effectively and kindly to deliver real change

Wessex Green Hub was established in early 2020 as a local initiative to develop sustainable and regenerative approaches to business activity, to identify and implement practical, deliverable opportunities to improve environmental and social outcomes, and help to address the climate emergency in the Winchester and wider Wessex area.

Wessex Green Hub is a Community of Place, Practice and Inquiry working closely with local businesses, the University of Winchester and Solent University, Winchester City Council and other community partners in the wider Wessex area (approximately Hampshire, IoW, Dorset & south Wiltshire).

Our purpose is to connect local business owners with each other and with practitioners, academics and residents, to build regenerative webs of connection and initiate sustainable and regenerative activities. We work with local businesses (particularly SMEs) to become more regenerative and sustainable and to design, build and deliver circular products and services.

Wessex Green Hub has five overall objectives:

  1. Enable local businesses, together with the local community – including organisations, local authorities and universities – to share resources and expertise in order to make dramatic improvements in sustainability and regenerative activities in the Winchester and the wider Wessex area

  2. Connect people, communities and organisations’ together through a thriving Community of Place, Practice and Inquiry, working effectively and kindly to deliver real change

  3. Develop and share regenerative business models (for example based on circular economics and design thinking) and support implementation projects in local businesses and organisations

  4. Establish pilot projects to demonstrate with practical outcomes how local businesses and communities can work together to deliver improvements in sustainability and social justice

  5. Identify and create specific opportunities to make Winchester and wider Wessex more sustainable in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
